Final Words & Conclusion
The Verdict
Here's what you need to remember. The GeForce 8800 GT is the GeForce 9800 GT is the GeForce GTS 240 (soon). One of the reasons I wanted to do this review is to get that message across. Though configurations will differ slightly, is all boils to more or less the same product. The GTS 240 probably will be priced a little higher .. so why not go with a GeForce 9800 GT if that suits your budget ? I mean, the 9800 GT still offers a nice feature set and decent performance for the money you have to lay down on the table. The 1 GB version as tested today with all it's customization, you can purchase somewhere in the 110-130 USD range. The reality is, that's a fair amount of performance you get returned for the money.
But sure, I do think that it's time for NVIDIA to upgrade that NVIDIA's sub-150 USD segment with something new, the next best thing is the GTS 250 which offers great value for money.
Galaxy's version of the 9800 GT card as tested today makes up for some extra. The core and memory are fairly overclockable yet of course the cards stand out in design and customization. The sheer looks are fantastic, the integration of a HDMI port is snazzy and the cooler well .. is the cooler. It certainly looks good, but we were surprised about the temperature reaching 80 Degrees C. Next to that, it's not noisy .. but it isn't silent either.
Other then that this is a really lovely product which we highly encourage you to purchase. Also something to consider, two of these puppies setup in SLI with 1024MB framebuffer per GPU .. that might be a good deal there.
The aesthetics are good and it even comes with an okay bundle, though on the software side you should not expect anything extra. If you stumble into the card and can pick it up for roughly 120-130 USD then I say fair deal, as you will not regret it, it's enough performance for any modern game at a decent resolution.
Overall, an okay product which we would recommend.
